We came from the workface.

EMI3 was not designed in a workshop with sticky notes. It came out of two decades of standing on the deck of the machine, watching good people do difficult work with documentation that was never built for the conditions they work in.

Equipment Management International began as a maintenance practice, not a software company. The work was the same problem, again and again, across different sites and different continents: procedures that assumed conditions nobody had on the day, execution that varied with whoever happened to be rostered, and an organisation that could describe what should have happened but could not show what did.

The methodology came first. ZoneMaintenance, dividing a machine into zones, sequencing the work, running trades in parallel, and capturing what was found at the moment it was found, was developed on real service bays before a line of it was written as software. The platform is what that method became when it needed to travel further than the people who invented it.

That order matters, and it is the thing hardest to copy. A general-purpose software team can build screens. What they cannot easily acquire is twenty years of knowing why a task that looks trivial on paper takes forty minutes at the machine, or which step a fitter will quietly skip when the shift is running late and the instruction does not match what is in front of them.

Most industrial vendors model the process. EMI3 deconstructs the work.

Today EMI3 is an Industrial Execution & Assurance Platform: one execution core, delivered as purpose-built applications across mining, ports, rail, processing, energy, water, projects and equipment compliance. It sits between the systems that plan industrial work and the people who perform it, the layer where almost every operation still runs on paper.

What does not change

Three principles we hold to.

These are guardrails rather than values statements. Each one is a decision we have already made, and each one costs us revenue we could otherwise take.

  • Protect the platform

    No bespoke client forks. No custom code for individual clients. Every new industry and every new client is served through configuration and templates. It means occasionally saying no to work, and it is why a site deployed this year still runs the same platform as a site deployed five years from now.

  • Scale through partners, not headcount

    Certified Regional Operating Partners own the client relationship, the delivery, the training and the support. EMI provides the platform, the standards, the governance and the intelligence. We do not build a direct sales force or an implementation consultancy that competes with our own partners in their region.

  • Every decision feeds the intelligence layer

    The long-term value is not in any single application. It is in aggregated execution evidence: the ability to compare how work is really performed across sites, regions and industries. Every new application, site and partner adds to that.

How we build

Design decisions made at the machine.

Four commitments shape every application. They are the reason field users describe the platform as fitter friendly, and the reason thirteen applications behave like one system rather than thirteen products.

Work deconstruction

We take the task apart into what is actually observable at the machine (zone, sensory channel, role, sequence, physical access, shift-time reality) and rebuild it as workflow with those components intact. Not a digitised copy of the manual.

Field-driven design

The design discipline is cognitive load and physical friction: what a technician can hold, see and remember at the point of work. Not personas, not journey maps. The test is never "does this look modern", it is "does this reduce friction on this shift, at this machine".

Execution first

The platform grows upward from the point of work. Analytics, compliance and corporate visibility are layers built on execution evidence, not the other way around. Most industrial software grows downward from the corporate layer and never quite reaches the field.

Structured replication

Each new application is one validated execution pattern replicated into a new operational domain, reusing execution logic rather than forking code. One execution model, replicated under discipline, which is why new industries are a templating exercise, not a rebuild.
